What are you doing out there?

We have a cat in our neighborhood. We live out in a pretty rural area and I think it’s a barn cat. It’s a beautiful animal, a Calico or a Tabby, I think, and he sits out in the field behind our house and hunts field mice. He’s left a few gutted gifts for us on our lawn and loves to play in our mulch. Our dog, Toby, is thoroughly confused by this little visitor. He sits at the patio door, barking and pawing at the glass. I think if he could get to it, he’d try to engage it in play. As Toby barks, the cat sits calmly, staring right at him as if to say “I bet you wish you were out here with me! I have all the freedom in the world!”

The cat looks healthy, well-fed actually. He bounds through the tall grass and rolls on our lawn. He won’t come near us so I think he’s used to being outdoors. I worry for him as the cold weather approaches. I hope he belongs to someone close by. In the meantime, Toby and I will keep an eye out for our little feline friend and make sure he’s doing okay.
